Severed heads and a smile!

So I'm @ the New York International School of Beauty, 8th Ave between 35th and 36th Street (www.nyibs.com). For $20 I'm getting my hair colored, styled and blown. And who said NY prices were high?

The catch is, I sort of signed my life away, allowing student beauticians to "learn" on my hair. My head, along with 15+ other dummies (severed plastic heads with real hair that is) are the center of attention. My girl, Ortencia, is happy to be working on me she said. I think she gets bonus points for working on a live head vs just following the class (tonight, they're doing cut and curls it seems).

While I'm waiting for my dye to kick in, Ortencia's teacher chats with her about how to spread my dye more evenly (in spanish, but I figured it out). Whoops! The severed head almost came off the stand that's clamped to her station!

Well, we'll see if the savings was worth it - 20 more minutes to go! :)

DONE! And I look GREAT! Thanks Ortencia, I'll see you in 4 weeks!

Jordan Mae Higgins

Jordan Mae Higgins - what a nice name.  I wonder if I'm the FIRST to post it on the INTERNET!  My friend and former co-worker just made the announcement ... congratulation to Steve and his wife, Mrs. Steve!  Born July 19th - that makes little Jordan a Leo I think ... also interesting, JMH shares this day with some famous (and infamous) folks ... Lizzie Borden (alleged murderess) and Edgar Degas (artist).  Very cool ... :)

Over and out for now!

NYC Commuter's Tip #1

Ok, maybe this will be my theme for a while ... firsts. Or maybe not, but this is what I have to share this Friday.

When taking the S Train (aka The Shuttle), watch out for Track #4. You'll want to be sure to run toward the lead car (that is, the one at the every front). Not only will you beat the rush out at Times Square, you'll avoid the narrow exit-way the folks in the rear cars have to deal with! As well, whether it's raining or not - there seems to be a big puddle on that end!

So there you have it. I've gone from Outlook TIPS to Commuter TIPS! Have a great weekend ...
